After finishing out the pre-season taking three games out of three from Colorado Christian the previous weekend, the Mountain Lions looked to start conference play off strong against a familiar opponent. After splitting with the Cougars during conference play in 2024, the Mountain Lions would flip the script and sweep the series. The last time the Mountain Lions started off conference play with a sweep was in 2021, against the Cougars of Colorado Christian.
Game 1
After a five run 3rd inning from the Cougars, the Mountain Lions would start off conference play from behind. In the bottom half of the innings the Mountain Lions would plate 4, bringing the deficit to only one run. After trading runs in the 4th and the 5th inning, both teams offenses would go quiet with strong bullpen performances from either team. This storyline would soon be burnt down as Bryce Peterson parked a two run homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning, giving the Mountain Lions their first lead of the game. Joe Plise would wrap the game up with his second save on the season and start the Mountain Lions off 1-0 in conference play.
Game 2
After the come from behind victory in the prior day, the Mountain Lions would hope to get the offense going early. That unfortunately would not be the case with the Cougars plating 4 runs in the first two innings. The Mountain Lions would answer back with a run in the bottom of the second, but with their work cut out for them. Hanging up their first crooked number of the weekend, the Mountain Lions would plate 5 in the bottom of the third, taking the lead. Nick Miszuk and Josh Zotto would both have strong performances out of the pen keeping the Cougars where they were at. After a small rally from the Cougars tying the game, the Mountain Lions would plate 3 in the bottom of the 6th inning, giving Joe Plise another opportunity at a save. The good guys win after a strong bullpen performance, picking up starter Jacob Brown.
Game 3
Again, the Mountain Lions would have their work cut out for them to kick of the third game of the set. After each team scored once in the first inning, Colorado Christian would jump out to a lead hanging a 5 spot in the second inning. The Mountain Lions would score two runs in the second, third, and fourth inning, still trailing by two runs. After Quinn Medin brought the good guys within one run in the bottom of the sixth history would repeat itself. Some may call it Deja Vu, I call it Bryce Peterson. Again, Bryce would give the mountain lions a lead with a two run homerun. Joe Plise would tally his third save of the weekend, with his second save of the day.
Game 4
After taking a 10-0 lead to start the last game of the series, the Mountain Lions never looked back. The Cougars plated three on a homerun from Lucas Hinze, but the Mountain Lions would answer back with two more runs in the fifth and the sixth inning, making the score 14-3. This game would be all but wrapped up, even with the attempt at some late game heroics from the Cougars. The Mountain Lions finished the weekend 4-0 to kick of conference play and look to keep the momentum rolling into a tough team in Regis.
